League One football club, AFC Wimbledon – is offering supporters who back its crowdfunding campaign towards the cost of a new stadium the chance to have that stadium named after them for one of five matches in its first season there next year.

In addition, those investing can choose to put their names on a range of items within the new stadium, from turnstiles and entrance gates to food kiosks, beer taps and even urinals.  Other incentives being made available include hospitality tickets for one home league match in the first season.

For the crowdfunding initiative, the club is releasing up to 25 per cent of shares. Its current shareholders and the Dons’ Trust to ensure that AFC Wimbledon will remain fan-owned will still hold seventy five per cent of the club. The minimum investment level to participate in the crowdfunding is £10.

AFC Wimbledon will return to its historic home at Plough Lane in Wimbledon next summer. It will be the culmination of an extraordinary story that saw the club rise from the old Division 4 to the old Division 1 in just five seasons, culminating in them beating the mighty Liverpool in the 1988 FA Cup Final.

However, this was followed by the sale of the club and its ground which saw the club taken away from its supporter base, renamed and moved around 70 miles away. A group of supporters came together to start a new fan-owned Wimbledon at the lowest level of English football and the club rose back into the English Football League within nine years and now sits just two levels below the Premier League.

“As a fan-owned club we are determined to ensure that those who participate in the crowdfunding programme and help take us home to Plough Lane will literally have their names marked on the new stadium,” explains Chief Executive, Joe Palmer.

“Not only will everybody who invests go into a draw for the chance to have the stadium named after them for one match, but everybody who invests will have their name recorded permanently within the new stadium.”
