Accounting software specialists, Clear Books, has launched Clear Books Micro, free software that will allow business owners to keep their books within a cloud-based spreadsheet. In addition, accountants will be able to submit a company’s VAT, CIS and MTD returns to HMRC directly through the platform, complying with the government’s ‘Making Tax Digital’ legislation.

As data will be stored securely in the cloud, business owners and their accountants will be able to access their books anytime, anywhere, ending the rigmarole of accountants and their clients emailing spreadsheets back and forth. Accountants will also be able to instantly raise questions and flag issues as they appear, rather than waiting until year-end.

Phil Sayers, Sales and Marketing Director at Clear Books comments: “With Making Tax Digital on the horizon, now is the optimum time for accountants to transition their clients on to an easy-to-use online accounting spreadsheet.

“The format of each client’s spreadsheet is often different, Micro will standardise and simplify the process for accountants and businesses. Using Micro will not only help accountants streamline their workloads, but also future-proof themselves in preparation for the new government legislation.”

Clear Books Micro will feature three spreadsheet ‘tabs’, Sales Invoices, Bank Receipts and Expenditure, all of which allow the easy input of appropriate data including dates, amount (including VAT where required) and the types or details of the income or expense.

Only accountants will be able to create accounts from the Clear Books Micro data and submit it to HMRC via software called Clear Books Practice Edition, which will cost £5 per client, per month.
